I understand that it’s supposed to be stressful but like, it’s just stressful to be stressful. I thought Good Time was way better and interesting than Uncut Gems, and I wasn't that much of a fan of Good Time in the first place. Like they love films and try to pay homage to some except they can't write engaging dialogue, characters or understand what makes a scene good and why something works. Idk, for me, the Safdie brothers remind me of Tarantino in a way.

And a movie without character development isn't exciting for everyone just because the directors are trying really hard to make us feel anxious.īut maybe the person you guys were talking about was just an easily distracted phone watcher anyway. Yet, from start to end it's still just a movie about a loud, walking gambling addiction (the one defining character trait ) being a gambling addict and therefore bad things happen and the movie ends in the exact same place only the stakes were upped. The movie masks the void in its heart by trying very hard to be frantic and leaving the viewer no time to think and conjuring a laboured sense of excitement. The plot is thin, the characters are fairly one-note and depth is mostly teased at best but doesn't lead anywhere. Some people need someone to root for to stay engaged, you might not find the movie interesting if you couldn't care less about what happens to any of the characters because they might as well all die in a fire. It might keep you at the edge of your seat, others might just become numb to it. The movie bombards you with a cacophony of noise, fast cuts and random shouting and never stops. Still, we can hypothesize why someone could find it boring, although it might not be the most popular opinion.
